As a result of the situation regarding COVID-19 improving across the province, the Ministry of Education and health officials proposed three return-to-school models. Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) released a letter outlining the three possible models for returning to school – AMDSB will follow the model of returning full time in September.
In the three proposed plans for returning to school Model A meant students would return full time; Model B would see two cohorts of students attending on different days; and Model C involved full online learning in September.
According to Dr. Lisa Walsh, Director of Education AMDSB, depending on the ever-changing situation surrounding COVID-19, the school board may need to move between the models throughout the 2020/21 school year.
“If, as a province, we were to begin in Model B and then experience an increase in cases, we may be directed to return to full online learning for a period of time,” Walsh explains in her letter to parents.
