It’s a humbling total.
The Under One Roof campaign in support of Brockville General Hospital’s phase II redevelopment project has surpassed its goal of raising the community share of $20 million. It was announced at a “gathering of gratitude” event at the Aquatarium on Tuesday evening that commitments totalling $20,605,000 have been made.
“No words can appropriately express our gratitude to the communities of Leeds and Grenville, our donors and internal stakeholders that have made this all possible,” campaign co-chair David Beatty stated in a release.
The redevelopment project will see the amalgamation of services Brockville General Hospital provides at both the Charles Street and Garden Street sites. The project is slated for completion in the fall of 2020.
The campaign cabinet and the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation have worked behind the scenes to secure internal support from local municipalities and the BGH and foundation boards. Cabinet members and the foundation have been humbled by the generosity of individuals and businesses who have backed Under One Roof, according to a foundation release.
“The support of Leeds and Grenville is an acknowledgement by its citizens of the importance of this project and the magnitude of this historic investment in our community hospital,” stated campaign co-chair Mary Jean McFall.
The cabinet was able to minimize the impact that a public campaign would have on other charities in local communities by seeking the support of municipalities. A $10-million commitment by the foundation was secured through donor funds; there was also a $4.76-million commitment from the City of Brockville and a $2.12-million commitment by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville as well as financial commitments from the towns of Gananoque and Prescott.
