PRESCOTT — An explosion at a former recycling facility here late Monday afternoon left one man with serious injuries and led to the arrest of another.
Provincial police were saying little Monday pending further investigation.
“The scene is being held pending a search warrant,” Cst. Cathy Lindsey, of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Grenville detachment, said Monday morning.
By mid-afternoon, that search was ongoing.
“It looks like it’s going to take them into the evening,” said Lindsey.
Police were called to 205 Churchill Road West at 5:35 p.m. on Monday.
“There was an explosion related to the building,” said Lindsey, adding the industrial site “had to be secured” as a result.
A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital.
“It looks like it could be serious head trauma,” said Lindsey.
Meanwhile, officers arrested a 36-year-old man, but the constable would not discuss the details of the arrest at this point in the investigation.
The man was later remanded into custody at the Brockville jail.
“They’re waiting for the findings of the search warrant,” said Lindsey, adding the man can be held up to three days while investigators go over the evidence.
The Prescott Fire Department also responded to the incident, which saw a significant police presence.
The building used to house Haycore, a recycling facility, more than 10 years ago before it relocated to the former Bingo International east of town, a site it has also since vacated.
