Drivers are being urged by the Grenville County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police to be aware of their speeds when they enter the Town of Prescott.
“With the warmer weather approaching, pedestrians and cyclists are crossing the streets and sharing the roadways,” states an OPP release issued on Tuesday.
The speed limit on County Road 2 through Riverview Heights, just west of Prescott, is 60 kilometres an hour; the limit drops to 50 when the road becomes King Street at the town line. An electronic board posted at Sophia Street earlier this year advises eastbound motorists of their speeds and serves as a reminder to slow down, police indicate.
The southwest area of Prescott gets busier during warmer months when more people make their way to and from Kelly’s Beach, the pool and Centennial Park, the OPP release adds.
An older-model electronic sign indicates the speed of westbound vehicles on King Street East just west of Russell Street near Fort Wellington. The speed limit on County Road 2 in New Wexford just east of Prescott is 50 kilometres per hour.
