POLICE: Charged with driving impaired by drug

City police on Monday afternoon arrested a 42-year-old local woman on an impaired driving charge after a minor collision near the downtown area.

City police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the area of Brock and William streets at about noon.

The vehicle with two female occupants was involved in a minor collision; there were no injuries, police reported Tuesday. Police suspected the driver of being under the influence of drugs.

Police administered a test and the woman was arrested. Officers determined that the drug was hydromorphone. Police released the accused pending a court date.

Arrested on warrant

Brockville police received word from the OPP on Monday afternoon at about 4 that a man wanted on a warrant by city police had been located outside of city limits.

The warrant involved an alleged breach of bail conditions, Brockville police said in a news release. Provincial police arrested the 23-year-old local man and turned him over to city police; he was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Car stolen, driver charged with impaired

City police early Wednesday morning charged an 18-year-old man after a drunk driver tried to steal a vehicle off a dealership lot.

A city officer on patrol at about 3 a.m. observed a 2010 Toyota Corolla leave the 1000 Islands dealership on Stewart Boulevard.

The officer stopped the car; it had just been stolen from the lot and the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, Brockville police said later Wednesday.

Police arrested the driver without incident and turned him over to a qualified breath technician; the accused failed the test and was charged with impaired driving and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police released him pending a court date, while his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

Arrested for drugs and weapons offences

One man faces charges after a joint forces police operation in the south end of Brockville Tuesday.

Brockville police and the OPP executed a search warrant at a George Street address on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

A 54-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were arrested at the scene. Police charged the man with drugs and weapons offences; the woman was released unconditionally, Brockville police said.

Darting in front of traffic

Brockville police on Tuesday arrested a 37-year-old man following a call about a suspicious person darting in front of traffic.

City police responded at 11:16 a.m. to a report of a suspicious person. The caller believed the man was in distress or under the influence of drugs; he was darting in front of traffic, was almost hit and was holding some type of tool in his hand, police said.

Officers found the man a short distance away, arrested him and charged him with breach of probation. He was given a court date and released.
