POLICE: Traffic stop, foot chase net drugs

Brockville Police on Monday arrested two men who fled from a traffic stop into a downtown-area drug store, leading to a series of charges including drug trafficking.

Officers “engaged a white Dodge pickup due to its driving habits in the south end of town” on Monday around 8:45 p.m., police reported on Wednesday.

Two male suspect fled from the vehicle into the Rexall drug store, where they were immediately arrested, police added.

One of the men was on bail conditions with a curfew; the second was on probation with numerous conditions.

Officers seized “a large quantity of various drugs,” including fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, hydromorphone and marijuana, with a street value of more than $40,000, said police.

The vehicle also had weapons and ammunition inside it.

A 54-year-old and a 41-year-old man were charged with weapons offences, breaches of court orders, as well as possession of stolen property and Cannabis Act charges, police reported.

The 54-year-old accused will also be charged with four counts of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, said police.

Both accused were held for a bail hearing.

Intruder wanted game system

A break-in suspect tried to steal a game system after breaking into a city resident’s home on Tuesday, Brockville Police reported.

Shortly after noon, police received a call about a male suspect being inside the complainant’s residence.

Once police were contacted, the intruder fled and tried to take a game system belonging to the complainant, police added.

Officers found the 33-year-old suspect a short distance away, where he was arrested for theft and break and enter. The game system was retrieved by the complainant prior to the suspect leaving.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Drugs found in vehicle

A traffic stop at a north-end store on Tuesday led to drug possession charges against four young people.

Brockville Police stopped a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot of a north-end store, where the canine officer revealed that the occupants were in possession of a controlled drug.

The four occupants, an 18-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man and two 19-year-old women, were all charged with possession of methamphetamine and speed, said police.

They were all released with future court dates.

Shoplifter nabbed

Staff at a north-end store on Tuesday arrested a woman for shoplifting.

Brockville Police got a call at 6:30 p.m. from the store regarding a shoplifter in custody. The 33-year-old woman was arrested for stealing over $200 worth of merchandise, said police.

The property was recovered, and police held the woman in custody for a bail hearing.
