They went the distance for a local charity.

The YMCA of Eastern Ontario’s 100 km Walk, Run & Roll Challenge ended on Friday.

Participants in the two-week fundraiser were encouraged to choose a physical activity, set a distance goal and track their progress. Individuals and teams were encouraged to submit photos and videos as well as daily distance updates for the challenge leaderboard.

Topping the final leaderboard is Ilona T. at 569.9 km. Team Meera & Nalia/Chris G is second at 550 km, followed by Daragh M (478), Rob A (461.8) and Theresa S. (434).

“The leaderboard doesn’t tell the whole story by a long shot,” the YMCA stated.

“It doesn’t show the personal and team challenges that saw personal bests, those who used the challenge as a way to motivate themselves to become active, or even the stories of relationships that were enhanced by achieving a shared goal.”

The challenge’s fundraising total as well as team and individual prize winners are to be announced next Monday.

The YMCA is planning to reopen its pools, fitness and recreational facilities in Brockville and Kingston on Sept. 1.

Lockers and change rooms will be in service. Masks are required in change rooms and at all times when not swimming, working out or taking a shower, according to a reopening update on Friday.

The facilities will be closed between 1 and 3 p.m. on weekdays for cleaning.
