Cooper Kingston is returning for another season with the South Grenville Rangers, the Jr. C hockey club announced on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old forward from Spencerville racked up 15 goals and 15 assists as well as 57 penalty minutes in the NCJHL 2019-2020 regular season. Kingston added three goals and three assists in the playoffs, which were cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Coop has been a huge part of our squad since he joined his hometown SGR,” assistant captain Cameron Dillon stated in a release. “He is a skilled player with a gritty edge to his game. His game thrives in our own end. I’d say he is one of, if not the best, skilled guys on the team.”

Kingston played with the Athens Jr. B Aeros for two seasons and had brief stints in Brockville and Winchester in the CCHL2 (now known as the EOJHL) prior to signing with South Grenville.

Dillon, assistant captain Jordan Poulin and captain Brody Ranger are also returning for 2021.

South Grenville, which plays its home games at Ingredion Centre in Cardinal, has won the NCJHL West Division title two years in a row and was 6-0 in the playoffs when the pandemic forced the cancellation of hockey activities in March.

The Jr. C league is hoping to launch a condensed 2021 season on Jan. 8.
