Golfers in Ontario are finally able to tee off, several weeks after the 2020 season would have begun.
Premier Doug Ford announced on Thursday that golf courses could open to the public beginning on Saturday; however, numerous health-related restrictions and limitations are in effect because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
All non-essential businesses have remained closed by emergency order since early this spring.
The provincial government had announced on Friday, May 1 that several types of businesses in Ontario would be permitted to open as of May 4, so long as they adhere to “strict public health measures.”
Among those businesses were golf courses, which were allowed to prepare for the season but not permitted to open to the public for play. Basic maintenance of courses had been permitted prior to May 1.
The Prescott Golf Club had been planning for an opening date of May 15; the club’s board had made that decision at its April 21 meeting.
