The captain’s return appeared to buoy the South Grenville Rangers on Friday night.

Brody Ranger assisted on all four of the home team’s goals as South Grenville doubled the North Dundas Rockets 4-2 at Ingredion Centre in the first game of a home-and-home series. The rematch is set for Chesterville on Saturday night at 7:30.

South Grenville opened the scoring Friday with a short-handed goal at 12:30 of the first period. Ranger’s long airborne pass from inside the South Grenville blue line flew just over the reach of a North Dundas player and onto the stick of a streaking Jordie Dodge, who put it away. Cole Edgley made it 2-0 for the Rangers late in the opening frame. Matthew O’Brien’s power-play goal made it 3-1 in the second period, and Dodge’s second goal of the night and ninth in three games gave South Grenville a three-goal lead late in the third. The Rockets scored late to make it a two-goal difference.

Sam Limoges-Ring picked up the win in net for the Rangers, who lead the National Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division with a record of 8-1. The loss ended a four-game win streak by North Dundas (4-4-1).

The Rangers introduced their red jersey Friday night. The new sweaters are sponsored by the Grenville Dairy Producers.
